How is the time to goal computed?

The tool simulates month by month: balance = balance × (1 + rate/12) + contribution, until balance ≥ goal. This compounds interest monthly on the growing balance.

What interest rate should I use?

Use the rate you expect on your savings account, CD, or low-risk investment. 3–5% is typical for high-yield savings; 7–8% reflects long-run stock market averages (with higher risk).

What if I'm already past my goal?

The tool shows 'Goal reached!' and stops — you've already exceeded the target.

Why does it say I can't reach the goal?

If both your monthly contribution and interest rate are 0, the goal can never be reached from your current savings. Add at least one of the two.

Does the projection account for inflation?

No — these are nominal future values. Use the inflation calculator separately to see what your saved amount will be worth in today's purchasing power.

Are my numbers uploaded anywhere?
