What dimensions can I use?

Anything from 8×8 to 4096×4096 pixels. Use the quick presets for common sizes (OG image, Instagram, HD wallpaper, etc.) or type your own.

How does “Auto” text colour work?

It computes the relative luminance of your background and picks black or white for the best contrast — handy when you swap background colours quickly.

What format is the output?

PNG, so colours stay exact and transparency (if you wanted it) is possible. The placeholder is a flat solid colour by default.

Is the HTML snippet included?

Yes — a copy-paste tag is generated with the via.placeholder.com URL format. Use it directly or replace the src with your downloaded PNG.

Can I generate multiple placeholders at once?

Not in this tool — each click downloads one PNG. For bulk needs, generate them one at a time or script the canvas logic yourself.

Are placeholder images uploaded anywhere?
